POLO AT THE POINT 2010 FEATURED ART TO BE UNVEILED
FIRST FRIDAY ARTWALK
Lyon’s Share Gallery

Fairhope, Alabama (August 31, 2010)

The Lyon’s Share Gallery will feature renowned Mobile artist Eugenia Foster’s exclusive 2010 Polo at the Point official painting. The unveiling is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Foster’s intensely colored, boldly marked oil on canvas abstract and abstract impressionism paintings of polo horses and players in action will be printed on Polo at the Point posters and t-shirts. The artist also will sell her wares during the event, donating a portion of the proceeds to the main beneficiary, Mercy Medical’s Guardian Angel.

“I’ll have some really good imagery,” said Foster, who has taken riding lessons and studied polo horses to master her subject matter. “I’m excited about participating in the event.”

The nationally award-winning artist has earned a reputation as a leading talent. Her creations are highly sought after, sell for high dollar and hang in prestigious galleries, local landmarks and in some of the southeast’s finest homes. For the last six months, her paintings have dressed up the Mobile Regional Airport. The Hearin Room at the Mobile Chamber of Commerce bears her art, providing exposure that led businesses like Thyssen Krupp to purchase pieces to send to their home office in Germany. Her paintings also grace Ashland Gallery in Mobile and Region’s Bank on Hillcrest Road.

Foster began working in oils 21 years ago, finding inspiration from masters like Toulouse Lautrec, Gauguin, Degas, Chagall, Van Gogh and Cézanne. “I selfishly like to think now that my style is my own,” she said. “I have been influenced by people but there is something in my work that pleases me. Obviously, the way I apply the paint, but it also is my somewhat irreverent attitude for not copying nature. I want it to be screaming with energy. My work is very energetic. I am very energetic.”

Since 1988, Polo at the Point has raised millions of dollars that benefited cancer research, local non-profit organizations, and children’s charities. Polo at the Point has become known as the Gulf Coast’s most prestigious charity sporting event and provides a unique experience for polo fans as well as those experiencing the majestic sport for the first time. Throughout the event weekend, several teams comprised of local, regional and international polo players compete to play on Sunday, October 17 at Sonny Hill Polo Complex at U.S. 98 and Baldwin County 32 in Point Clear for the coveted Point Clear Polo Cup.

Festivities begin with the Players’ Party on Friday night, October 15, at the Blue Gill with live entertainment. Sunday's event includes world class polo, delicious food, champagne, divot stomping, tailgating fun, reserved seating, garden party attire, a hat parade, a silent auction and much more.

This is the second consecutive year Mercy Medical’s Guardian Angel has been designated as the event’s main beneficiary.

Tickets for the event range from $10 for tailgaters to $100 with sponsorships available.

The 2010 Polo at the Point, a Point Clear Charities event, is scheduled October 17 at Sonny Hill Polo Complex in Point Clear. The Gulf Coast’s most prestigious charity sporting event has designated for a second consecutive year Mercy Medical’s Guardian Angel as the main beneficiary.

As the event gets closer, Polo at the Point committees led by Event Co-Chairs Dawn Pilot, Jamie Leatherbury and Linda Lou Parsons, work diligently to organize a weekend of family fun and entertainment. “Polo at the Point is run by dedicated volunteers who collaborate on making it an outstanding family outing and a successful fundraising event,” explained Linda Lou Parsons. “It’s amazing how much support from the community, local businesses and volunteers that Polo receives. Most supporters are inspired by the charitable beneficiaries like Guardian Angel. It’s very satisfying to contribute to a cause that can ensure critically or terminally ill children have the best healthcare available in their home, no matter of their family’s ability to pay. Polo is an opportunity to help our neighbors and have a great time doing it,” said Parsons.

Guardian Angel is the fundraising program that makes Mercy’s pediatric home care possible. Each year hundreds of children on the Gulf Coast require ongoing medical care. Since 1998, Mercy’s pediatric home care has served more than a thousand of these critically and terminally ill children, that range from birth to 17 years of age, and suffer from cystic fibrosis, leukemia, other cancers and diseases, or severe conditions resulting from a birth defect or injury.

Festivities begin with the Players’ Party Concert on Friday night, October 15, at the Blue Gill with Rondell & the Kit Kats. Sunday's event includes world class polo, great food, champagne, divot stomping, tailgating fun, reserved seating, garden party attire, a hat parade, a silent auction and much more. A rugby game exhibition is an added attraction to the half-time show at Polo at the Point.

Strong community support for Polo is evident by the committed sponsors to date that include Presenting Sponsors: Grand Hotel Marriott and IBERIA Bank; Team Sponsors: Raja Med Spa and Dream Ranch; Players’ Party Sponsor: Schwing Bioset; Luncheon Sponsors: Magnolia Trace Real Estate, Tressler Financial Group and BB&T; Silent Auction Sponsor: Ferguson; and Tent Sponsors: Sonny Hill Polo, Clear Water Polo, Sadies, and Calagaz. Sponsorship opportunities are still available including tent sponsorships for private party hosting.

Polo at the Point has been voted Mobile Bay Magazine’s 2009 Best of the Bay fundraiser. Tickets range from $10 (tailgating) to $100. For more information, visit www.poloatthepoint.com or call 621.4464.
