Polo at the Point

This year, Point Clear Charities has designated Mercy’s Guardian Angel and Thomas Hospital’s Pediatric Rehabilitation program as main beneficiaries of the 2011 Polo at the Point to be held at Sonny Hill-Clearwater Polo Complex in Point Clear, Ala.

Guardian AngelSince 1998, Mercy Medical’s pediatric home care has served more than a thousand critically ill children. It was the first and one of the only programs in the area that solely focused on delivering home healthcare, palliative care and hospice care to children up to 18 years of age in Mobile and Baldwin counties. The program helps children with chronic illness needing close monitoring, medication administration, care of infusion catheters, wounds, failure to thrive and other treatments. A registered nurse, trained in pediatrics provides treatment and educates the family about medications, diet, and the emotional effects of a serious illness of a child.

Mercy Medical provides care to any child in need, no matter of their family’s ability to pay. Because Medicaid or private insurance doesn’t always cover many pediatric home care services, sometimes more than 70 percent of these costs are funded through Guardian Angel. Learn about families that have shared their stories to show how vital Mercy’s pediatric program is to our community.

ThomasThomas Hospital’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive care to children who require occupational, physical, and speech therapy. The program meets the unique needs of patients – ages birth through adolescence – diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, hearing impairment, muscular dystrophy and other disorders. The state-of-the-art program provides a safe environment for children with special needs to work on their strength, coordination and balance.
