Since 1988, Polo at the Point has raised millions of dollars that benefited cancer research, local non-profit organizations, and children’s charities. Polo at the Point, a Point Clear Charities event, has achieved great success through its dedicated volunteers, polo players and sponsors who devote themselves to a great cause. Many sponsors, volunteers and players have again committed their support to this year’s event and its main beneficiaries, Mercy’s Guardian Angel and Thomas Hospital’s Pediatric Rehab Program. Sponsors IBERIABANK and Grand Hotel Marriott will once again present the 2011 Polo at the Point set for Sunday, October 16 at Sonny Hill-Clearwater Polo Complex in Point Clear, Ala.
“IBERIABANK is proud to be presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year of such an outstanding community event,” says Russ Ford, IBERIABANK Mobile Regional President. “Our partnership with Point Clear Charities is a testament to our Company’s commitment to supporting our local community as well as asserting the value that Mercy’s Guardian Angel and Thomas Hospital’s Pediatric Rehab Program bring to the residents of the gulf coast region.”
Other returning sponsors supporting the 2011 Polo at the Point include Dream Ranch, Schwing Bioset, Tressler Financial Group, Pilot Catastrophe Services, Inc., Mercedes-Benz of Mobile, and Cooper Restaurants: BLUEGILL Restaurant, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Felix’s Fish Camp. Precision IBC is a new sponsor to the event.
Over the past two years, Point Clear Charities, Inc. (PCC) presented Mercy Medical with $200,000 for its Guardian Angel program which supports critically and terminally ill children in their homes. Patients range from birth to 17 years of age, and suffer from cystic fibrosis, leukemia, other cancers and diseases, or severe conditions resulting from a birth defect or injury. Guardian Angel is one of the only programs that provides home healthcare, palliative care and hospice care to children in Mobile and Baldwin counties and serves any child in need, no matter of their family’s ability to pay.
Thomas Hospital’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive care to children who require occupational, physical, and speech therapy. The program meets the unique needs of patients – ages birth through adolescence – diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, hearing impairment, muscular dystrophy and other disorders. The state-of-the-art program provides a safe environment for children with special needs to work on their strength, coordination and balance.
Polo at the Point festivities begin with the Player’s Party featuring Locust Fork Band on Friday night, October 14 at the Grand Hotel Marriott’s Julep Point where guests enjoy hors d'oeuvres, live music and dancing.
Throughout a weekend, several teams comprised of local, regional and international polo players will compete to play on Sunday for the coveted Point Clear Polo Cup. Sunday’s event highlights include world class polo, gourmet cuisine, champagne, divot stomping, tailgating fun, a hat parade, a silent auction, garden party attire, reserved seating in the luncheon tent, and more. Tickets range from $10 (tailgating) to $125. The Children’s Chukkar is a new exhibition added to the half-time event, with players ranging in age from 8 to 15. It will highlight our community's future polo players and provides a great opportunity for children to participate in a great cause. Sponsorships opportunities are still available.
